1. What are Skill Games?
A Skill Game is when the skill of the player is the main factor determining the outcome of the game. Skill Games are designed to minimize the element of chance.

2. Can I play these games for free?
Yes. All single-player games and some multi-player games can be played for free for a limited time each day. Users are encouraged to try out the games, learn the rules, have some fun, and to practice before going on to try and win some money.

3. Who do I play against?
You play against other registered players within the SkillGames network. When you join a typical game you are matched with other players with a similar level of ability. A player’s level of ability is determined and managed by the central ranking system (managed by GamArena Ab) which is an implementation of the ELO rating system that has been used within the chess playing community for years. In multiplayer games such as pool and backgammon the user chooses who to play against by going to a lobby and challenging someone waiting there or by posting a challenge and waiting for someone to come along and accept it.

4. How do I know the games are fair?
The operator always remains impartial to the outcome of the games. It acts as the facilitator or the referee to games played between players. The operator ensures that all of the games are run fairly and that any random elements within them, such as dice rolling and card shuffling, are randomly generated by an industry approved RNG (Random Number Generator). The operator also ensures that players are ranked and matched fairly so that players always benefit from fair competition.

5. Can people cheat?
The operator has developed numerous anti-cheating devices to monitor game play and user windows to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) devices and player collusion cannot interfere with game play and cheats cannot gain an unfair advantage. The operator is continually integrating new technologies to enhance the monitoring of its game environment to make all game play fair and honest.

8. Do I need any additional software?
To play these Skill Games you will need to have Internet Explorer, Flash 8 and Shockwave 10 installed on your computer. When you go to the Skill Games section / site for the first time you will be asked to download any of this software that might be missing. When new versions of these programs become available, you will be prompted to upgrade them before continuing to the section / site. Please note that Flash and Shockwave from Adobe are both provided free of charge to their users and the installation required typically takes less than 1 minute for each (for users with broadband connections).

9. What kind of computer do I need?
To play these Skill Games you will need a Windows PC that at least meets the minimum requirements for running Flash 8 and Shockwave 10. You will also need some kind of connection to the Internet, but not necessarily broadband. Before you start playing the games, the operator will make sure that your computer speed and Internet connection are sufficient. Please note that running other programs while playing the SkillGames may make the games more slow.

10. Can I play these games using my Macintosh?
No. Users need a Windows based PC to play the Skill Games. The operator is currently working out ways to support Macintosh, so please stay tuned!

11. Why aren’t the multiplayer games / lobbies working?
The most likely cause is firewall blocking. We recommend that you contact your network administrator or refer to your firewall providers’ help pages for info on how to open your computer for port 12699. If this doesn’t solve the problem you should contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If this still doesn't help, contact our support; their address can be found under the usual help and support menu listings on this site

12. What different ways can I play?
You can play single and multiplayer games. Single player games allow you to play in your own time. Each player’s score will then be recorded and compared against other similar players’ scores and the winners will be determined accordingly. Multiplayer games are generally one-on-one: you play against another player in real time until the game is finished and a winner is pronounced. A good example of this is backgammon where 2 players need to be ready to play (head-to-head) at the same time.

13. Where can I find the game rules?
Each game has its own game page. Here you can access the game rules as well as other helpful hints and see the available tournaments for that game. We encourage all users to study the game rules before playing in tournaments.

14. How do I play a game?
To play a game, simply click on the game of your choice in the list of games on the start page or from the All Games menu. This will take you to the desired game page. Once you get to the game page, select the type of game that you want to play from jackpot tournaments to fixed bet (stake) tournaments where, for example, you can play a 2-player game with a EUR 1 entry fee or a 3-player game with a EUR 5 entry fee. The rules of these game types are shown in pop-up boxes on each game page. Note that multiplayer games, such as backgammon, are accessed via lobbies where you can select the desired level of stakes and choose your opponent from the list of players currently in the lobby. All games have their own set of rules and guidelines and you will always be asked to confirm your entry before starting to play.

15. Against whom am I playing in a Real Money Tournament?
You will always be playing against other players within the Skill Games network. In a fixed bet or stake game, where you choose your entry fee and number of opponents, the operator will match you against other players with a similar ranking. This means that rookies can be matched against other rookies and pros with pros so that the standard of competition you face improves as you get more game experience and improve your own ranking.

16. How is the player ranking / rating calculated?
The operator assigns a rating to all of its registered players and updates it regularly. Each player has a different rating for each game. The absolute beginner rating is always 1500. Depending on the number of games that a user plays and their (win / loss) performance in the games, this rating moves up or down. The rating may fluctuate greatly at first, but it will eventually change more slowly. In a fixed stake and fixed player tournament the player rating system is used to assure that players are evenly matched. In a multiplayer tournament, such as those offered in backgammon and couronne, each player can see the ratings of the other players in the game lobby in order to decide who they want to challenge.

17. What is the Player Profile?
The Player Profile is a small information card. It contains features like online status, activity, last visitors and data on the players most played game and last played game. From the Player Profile, you can easily add a player to your buddy list or challenge the player in a game for money. Each player has his own Profile that can be opened from anywhere his name is shown.

18. How is the Activity in the Player Profile measured?
The activity meter gives an indication on how active a player is. It is a combination of number of games played the last month and the number of days the player has been active during the same period. A players rating does not affect the activity meter.

19. What is the Buddy list?
The Buddy list is an easy way for you to keep track of your friends and favorite opponents. When a player on your buddy lists logs on, you are alerted in the ticker field above the menu. Click on a player in the list to view his Player Profile. You can add any player you want to your Buddy list. To remove a buddy, simply press the remove button in his Player Profile.

20. How do real money challenges work?
It is simple, you select a player you want to challenge, select a game and a bet level. After that, the game starts in your browser and you play your game and a challenge is sent to the opponent. Challenges can be either accepted or declined. Declined challenges are refunded instantly. If the player you challenged accepts the challenge, he will play with the same conditions you had, and the winner will be appointed right after he is finnished. If your opponent doesn’t notice your challenge for some reason, it is timed out after 60 hours and your bet is refunded.
